Movie Preservation And Public Access Before The National...
The official website of the Association of Moving Image Archivists features a statement made by the Committee for Film Preservation and Public Access before the National Film Preservation Board in 1993. ââ¬Å"Preservation without access is pointless,â⬠the quote says. Film is one area where preservation requires presentation after the fact. The mention of certain films being given a new restoration or a new print scan excites cinema lovers and researchers alike, due to the fact that film has not been as meticulously preserved in the past as it is now. Rapidly evolving techniques in how filmmakers shoot films is changing. David Lynch, the director of Blue Velvet (1986) and Mulholland Drive (2001), begin shooting mostly in digital video, followingâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦With streaming services on the rise, this creates a further gap in the types of films that are being preserved and presented to audience. What about films that never made it to DVD, let alone Blu-ray and st reaming? Historically, there has been a push in the United States to archive and preserve classic cinema and films backed by major Hollywood studies. A glance at the National Film Registry titles from 1989 to 2013 shows favor to mostly mainstream films. A few examples of mainstream films added to the registry include The Matrix (inducted in 2012), Toy Story (inducted in 2005), and Beauty and the Beast (inducted in 2002). There are a few example of films on the list not in the mainstream as well ââ¬â notably Julie Dashââ¬â¢s Daughters of the Dust (inducted in 2004) and Charles Burnettââ¬â¢s Killer of Sheep (inducted in 1990). Both of these films would perhaps be known to people outside the mainstream, but the registryââ¬â¢s film list reads more like a typical greatest films of all-time list. The list, available at http://www.loc.gov/film/registry_titles.php, is comprised of titles that were inducted by the Library of Congress and the National Film Preservation Board betw een the years of 1989 and 2013. According to the registryââ¬â¢s site, the board members select up to 25 ââ¬Å"culturally, historically or aesthetically significant films each yearâ⬠. In

Essay The Meaning of Actus Reus and the Chain of Causation
The Meaning of Actus Reus and the Chain of Causation The term actus reus is Latin for ââ¬Ëthe guilty actââ¬â¢. It is essential in criminal law, as actus reus must be there for their to be a criminal offence. It can mean a guilty act or an omission to act. In the crime of murder, then the actus reus would be the killing of a human being. The act must be voluntary for the defendant to be guilty. For example, if the defendant acts out of reflex because of another force, it is not voluntary and the defendant cannot be found guilty. A good example can be found in the case of Hill v Baxter (1958) where a driver is being chased by a swarm of bees and driving a car in these conditions would be extremely hard soâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The defendant used his girlfriend as a human shield when firing at the police. The police returned fire and shot his girlfriend and killed her. He claimed that it was the police that had killed her and not him. He was found guilty of manslaughter as the result would not have happened ââ¬Ëbut forââ¬â¢ the actions of the defendant. To break the chain of causation it would take actions of a third party intervening, the victimââ¬â¢s own contribution to the events or a natural and unforeseen event such as an earthquake. It is no excuse if the victim has a medical condition to that means that they are more susceptible to injuries. It is unlucky on the attacker but the actus reus is still there. Te defendant should ââ¬Ëtake the victim as they find themââ¬â¢ and this is known as the ââ¬Ëthin skull rule.ââ¬â¢ Explain in detail what is meant by the term mens rea. Discuss the different types of mens rea a defendant might have. Mens rea is Latin for ââ¬Ëthe guilty mind.ââ¬â¢ For a defendant to be found guilty of a crime, it must be proven that the defendant had the guilty mind to commit the actus reus. The defendant can only be found guilty of a crime, when both the actus reus and the mens rea are present. They must be present at the same time or close together. For the defendant to have the mens rea they must have an intention to commit the crime. There are two types of intent. Summary of resource:Meditation is a form of stress management that will allow our mind to experience an oasis of peace and love within our heart and mind. Meditation gave me back control over my life so that no matter what was happening externally whether it was positive or negative I could still develop control over my thoughts and thus control the emotions and feeling in my mind. NO one can control eradicate adversity in life but you can master the way you respond in regards to your thinking processes. Take control now master your mind through one of the meditation techniques and you will forever be able to be the peaceful beacon in the eye of the storm of any adversity. The basis for attaining an experience in raja yoga meditation in to understand the self and the mind. The human mind is the most creative, powerful and wonderful ââ¬Å"instrumentâ⬠we possess. Using this energy called mind we have been able to search the deepest oceans, send humans to the moon and scan the molecular fabric of the building blocks of nature. But have we found our true self? We have become the most educated and civilized society in our history, but are we civil towards each other? The soul has three main faculties; the mind or consciousness, the intellect and the subconscious. by the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga meditation organization. Two interesting Facts: So what I have read and learned of meditation is it is a way to lift up all bad energy from oneââ¬â¢s body and it is a way to lower ones stress level to a normal level. It is a way to make oneââ¬â¢s mind a peaceful place and in hopes of treating others like they are human too. Not only that, but most meditations help heal the body as well. Meditation allows oneââ¬â¢s mind to open up to a peaceful place and it allows the stress to flow right out and it does have the power to heal the mind and soul. This in turns makes you feel loving and peaceful to other around you. That is what I got out of reading the facts I found. So my understanding of this particular meditation is more focused on ones three main faculties the mind or consciousness, the intellect and the subconscious. This meditation helps the mind and the other one is more for your body and mind. What intrigues me the most about this Raja meditation is that it is ran by women. Did you know that Raja meditation is what we have discussed in our class? It talks about the brain in how it is the power of our bodies. It also talks about the conscious mind and they talk about how feelings and emotions form in accordance with the montage of thoughts flowing in the mind. Therefore our state of mind at any given moment is determined by the thoughts in our consciousness, and also with the feelings that we associate with those thoughts. What happened after you tried each technique?Well, I felt like a weight had been lifted off of my mind and body. I am able to think more clearly and see everything around me as an equal. I tried this after my daughter spit grape juice all over my floor and I found myself not being so angry about it, but now I look at it as that she is a one year old who does not know any better and I am not as mad as I was at the beginning. I like the Raja meditation because it deals with our minds. When I tried this technique I found myself in a nicer state of mind. I was able to think clearly and I was able to appreciate life a little more than I did before. I was able to focus better on my homework while drowning out the extra noise around me. With both techniques I was more pleasant to be around and I was less moody. 1.Do you think meditation leads to heightened sensation and perception? Explain why or why not. Oh yes I do think it does lead to heightened sensations because when you allow your mind to open up to a different place you can actually feel it. Say you do the first meditation that I have tried. It takes your mind to any place you want to go. So when you get there you can feel the warm breeze on your face and smell the ocean air. You are able to hear the waves crashing on the rocks and sand and hear the gulls flying around in the sky. You can actually see the blue skies and the few white puffy clouds. It is amazing where oneââ¬â¢s mind can take you. 2.Have you considered integrating meditation into your own lifestyle? If so, list one strategy for fitting meditation into your schedule. If not, explain why. Yes I have once brought meditation in my life when I was in high school. I think I need to bring it back to my life now because it has been so stressful and depressing. I plan to put in when I get up and when I go to bed. If for some reason I need it during the day I will find a quiet place to meditate for 15 minutes then I will go back to what I was doing with an open mind. There really is no reason why I cannot put a little me time in the day. I think everyone should be able to at least do some meditation in their day. Who knows maybe it might make the world a better place if they meditate. How to cite Meditation Worksheet, Essay examples

My Last Name Starts With A G So I Have Essay Example For Students
My Last Name Starts With A G So I Have Essay My last name starts with a GAG 1 have the following topics Discuss the pros and cons of two-way immersion programs. Children who introduced to immersion programs at an early age learn how to speak in a new language learn it fluently without accent. These children also have been seen to be more thoughtful about problem solving and decision making. Discuss the pros and cons of transitional bilingual education programs. Bilingual education programs are very costly. Bilingual education programs allow minority language speakers to avoid the dominant language. Compare and contrast two-way immersion program and transitional bilingual education programs. Both programs would be beneficial because both programs promote learning different languages. However the Immersion program would be best because it would not give room for the student to overlook the desired language to be learned. Which one do you think is more effective for the student you created a refill for in Weeks One and Two? Why? I think the Immersion program would be best for Lilly because it would not allow her to fall back to mainly Chinese. With the Bilingual programs Lilly would he tempted to use the language that comes easiest to her rather than learning to speak English and conquering the challenges she is having with the new language.
